Burning by closeiln, extended channel and raised kiln temperature created the black pottery with bright surfaces, evenly black inside and outside and durability. The Black Pottery High Handle Cup unearthed at the Longshan Culture relics in Rizhao district of Shandong Province represents the highest achievements of the ancient Black Pottery art. Its thinnest wall is only 0. 2-0. 3mm, and its shape is light and graceful. Unearthed in 1950s, many experts commented that only the best Song Dynasty vases could rival its lightness, its grace and its delicacy. Adopting the ancient close-kiln burning techniques, and with the different temperatures of wood burning, at least seven days of burning are needed to complete the creation. The finished black potterys are"as black as lacquer, as bright as mirror, as thin as paper, as hard as ceramics", with fine and smooth craftsmanship, and rich shapes and significances. The imitation products of the antique black pottery are elegant and with ancient simplicity and strong oriental culture while the modern pottery are multicoloured and with a great many forms and shapes. Due to the complicated techniques, rate of finished products are very low. Production periods for most products are usually over 20 days, some big ones even 100 days.
